I've mainly read contemporary books about India so far and they seldom present a posive image of the country. I especially liked in this book the portrayal of the colonial time.

I only read 'can you keep a secret' by Sophie Kinsella, and it made me laugh, but I can't make myself pick up any of her other books. I just so rarely give in to chick lit (as it mostly annoys me) and there are so many other books to read. *sigh*

Wow, that sounds like you feel disgusted and horrible while reading (well mostly). Don't think it'd be something for me. Not that I only like happy books, but at the moment I'm in a fluff mood, so not too close to home stories and happy endings. It'll change again, I'm sure.

Nein, es muss nicht immer spannend sein (wobei spannend auch einfach nur heißen kann, dass man das Buch nicht aus der Hand legen kann, auch ohne, das etwas 'spannendes' passiert), aber wenn es langweilig und uninteressant wird, dann finde ich das persönlich nicht gut.
