Realism is inevitable; war is the most successful way of achieving competing interests. You make the same assumption that socialism does; multipolarity would only work in a world where everyone is neighbors.

Gas prices are primarily going up because of increased speculation over the Iran crisis (not that the crisis wasn't inevitable). Inflation is definitely a factor, but more of a long-term one.
