This song was playing on some ship tied up next to us when we assembled on the mess deck of the USS Canisteo in October 1962 when the Captain adressed the crew and told us to prepare for war.

We did not go to war but it was touch and go for about 14 days.

As a deep water US Navy Oiler sailor all I can say I would rather face the Atlantic in full cry in late October and November and we had a Captian and a full crew well seasond, than the Great Lakes.

I heard this in NYC as a sailor on the USS Canisteo dry docked in Red Hook just before the Cuban Missle Crisis.

After JFK got on the radio you couldn't spend a dime in any saloon Brooklyn. We got underway and got the job done.
