Concept of God in Islam:
Islam is a purely monotheistic religion. The belief in unity in the (1) Lordship, (2) Worship, (3) Names and Attributes of the one and only creator of the Heavens and The Earth constitutes the monotheism of Islam.
(1). Muslims believe that Allah (God) is the true and complete owner of all things, ie: the only Creator who is the true and complete Owner and Sustainer of all things.
(2). Allah (God) is the only deity who has the right to be worshiped.
(3). Allah (God) has the most beautiful Names and Attributes (99) which are unique to Him and none else. Eg: Al-Awwal (The First), Al-'Alim (The Knower of All), As-Sami (The Hearer of All), Al-Basir (The Seer of All)
Basic Concepts in Islam:
Islam teaches that this life is a life of worship to the creator of all. We are placed on this earth in order to worship Allah (God) and obey His command. Islam is not just based on faith but there is proof that Islam is the true religion of Allah (God) so that one develops the correct faith with out a doubt.
Each person will be solely and completely responsible for their own actions in this life. One can sincerely ask forgiveness from
Allah (God) when one has wronged, and you will be forgiven as there is none else to forgive but Allah (one and only God).
Islam is not just a religion practiced on a specific day of the week, but rather it is a way of life that should be consistent through out ones life. This earthly life is a life of faith, worship and work, while the next life is one of reward and no work for the righteous. Allah (God) says in the Quran:
And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship me (alone). (Al-Quran 51:56)
Allah (God) has no need for worship since it can not increase the kingdom of Allah (God) nor add to His power, however it should be in the best interests of everyone to do so in this life in order to be saved from the torment of the fire.
Islam teaches that no colour, race, tribe, or lineage is better than any other. All humans are equal in the sight of Allah (God) and that the only thing that can distinguish them in His sight is their piety and worship as in the following verse:
O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah (God) is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa (god consciousness). Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware. (Al-Quran 49:13).
5 Pillars of Islam:
Islam is built upon five major pillars. A Muslim is taught that anyone who dies observing these five basic pillars will enter paradise. They are:
(1) To bear witness that there is no entity worthy of worship except Allah (God) alone, and that Muhammad (pbuh) was His messenger. One becomes a Muslim upon this testimony.
(2) To perform five prescribed prayers to God every day according to a specific prescribed method and at prescribed times. This helps in the remembrance in Allah (God), doing virtuous acts and abstaining from sin.
(3) To pay two and a half percent (2.5%) of ones excess wealth above poverty levels to charity to the needy every year. This helps in the circulation of wealth so that poverty is eliminated.
(4) To fast the month of Ramadan (from the Islamic Lunar calendar) every year from sun rise until sunset. This involves not eating, drinking, or having marital relations, from sun rise until sun set.
(5) To perform a pilgrimage to Makkah once in a Muslim's lifetime if it is financially possible and their health permits. During this period, Muslims come from all over the world to join together as brothers and sisters for six days in a prescribed set of acts of worship. This is symbolic of Islam as it unifies Muslims from all over the world with out any worldly distinction in race, profession or anything else.
What Is the Quran?
The Quran is the last revealed word of Allah (God) to the last and final messenger Muhammad (pbuh); it is the primary source of every Muslims faith and practice. It deals with all the subjects which concern human beings: wisdom, doctrine, worship, transactions, law, etc., but its basic theme is the relationship between Allah (God) and His creatures. At the same time, it provides guidelines and detailed teachings for a just society, proper human conduct, and an equitable economic system. The Quran was revealed in the Arabic language, so any translation is neither a Quran nor a version of the Quran, but rather it is only a translation of the meaning of the Quran.
Who Is the Prophet Muhammad ?
Muhammad (pbuh) was the last and final messenger sent as a mercy to humanity. His duty as the name suggests was to admonish humanity so that they may be lead aright and guided by Allah (God). He came with the same message as all the previous prophets and messengers (Jesus, Moses, Abraham, Noah etc) ie: There is no deity worthy of worship save the one and only God, Allah.
