Maybe in the sense of a sport itself but the machines have really grown into their own niche. In this case there are people who like to do tricks on them because they're lightweight and in other cases they are arguably the best cornering motorcycle ever created because they are so lightweight.

Hey, I'm 17 and I started off with a 250r when I was 16 and have recently ridden a 650r. What I can tell you is it has less to do with age/weight and more to do with experience. Take the MSF and get a 250r, you will learn much faster and it will be much harder to get yourself into trouble.
