Which is a great point because this year's dunkers lack the pedigree and name recognition to get anyone amped to watch. Are you really getting excited to see Chase Budinger dunk? The rest of the participants, Paul George, Iman Shumpert and Derrick Williams aren't driving people to their television sets either.
It's bad enough that the slamtastic Blake Griffin won't be skying over cars and cement trucks for mesmerizing dunks, but at least he played last year and wowed the world. LeBron has been in the league for eight years and never participated in the contest. With all the ill will from "The Decision" and his most thinking he is an evil villain for darting from Cleveland to the talented Miami Heat, this was the year for LeBron to change everyone's opinion of him by putting on a spectacular show at the Slam Dunk Contest. Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, and Dr. J were all in dunk contests and their aerial acrobatics only enhanced their image as basketball immortals. LeBron could have had everybody embrace him.
