He wasn't deposed for opposing the toll houses, it was for many other reasons. It probably isn't an important enough of an issue for the church to hold a council about. No saint taught it as a dogma, it was always seen as allegorical.

Yes, it is well known that for many centuries the church used 7 loaves ( 1 large for the lamb, the remaining 6 for commemorations. This is still done with the Russian Old Believers.). The Russian church now uses 5 loaves. The greek way is newer, but the same principal.
