The lines I like best are when Mordecai and Curly are riding down the railroad track. Mordecai says, "I think we've run into a string of good luck". Curly: "GOOD LUCK ???? We wrecked a car, wrecked a town, this truck is stole, and the law's on our tails".. Mordecai: " You can't let life get you d...

I got the following on the Web. "Birdland is located at 315 West 44th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues on the west side of midtown Manhattan". A friend of mine has been there, and he says its near Times Square.
Is the Apollo still open?

I think Pops and the All Stars first did this during a tour in Germany in 1956. The original had no lyrics, so they "wrote these lyrics, in a Satchmo way". Love it !!!

I'm pretty sure that Jack and Louis did this at the 1958 Newport Jazz festival. I don't mean this video is from there, just that they did it again. Have you ever seen the video, "Good Evening, Ever'body"? A tribute to Satch at 1970 Newport Jazz. Its $22 at Amazon, and worth every cent !!!!
I didn't know this photo was by Jeff Wall or that it had anything to do with Ralph Ellison's great novel.
The earliest Pops version of "Black and Blue" that I've found was in 1929. Very good. I don't think I've heard a Fats version, but there is a Fats version of "Ain't Misbehavin' " on You tube.
