Finns are genetic isolate. Of modern nationalities, Finns are closest to Cro-Magnons in terms of anthropological measurements. All other Europeans have Finnish genes but Finns don't have all the genes found in other Europeans. More than 80% of Finnish genes are from single ancient North-European population. Finns show very little if any Mediterranean and African genes but on the other hand almost 10% Finnish genes seem to be shared with some Siberian populations.

With regard to the Y-chromosome, the most common haplogroups of the Finns are N3 (58%), I (29%), R1a (7.5%) and R1b (3.5%).[41] Haplogroupe N3, which is found only in a few countries in Europe (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden and Russia), is a subgroup of the haplogroup N (Y-DNA) distributed across northern Eurasia and estimated in a recent study to be 10,000-20,000 years old and suggested to have entered Europe about 12,000-14,000 years ago from Asia

Finnic peoples (Fennic) are linguistic groups of peoples: Baltic Finns who are native speakers of Baltic-Finnic languages and Volga Finns,speakers of Volga Finnic languages.

The major modern representatives of Baltic Finns who have maintained their languages are the Finns and Estonians.

She is a barefoot young woman in her mid-twenties with often braided blonde hair, blue eyes, wearing a blue and white national costume or a white dress. She was originally called Aura after the Aura River in Turku (Åbo).
As a symbol, the Finnish Maiden has been used since the 18th Century when she was pictured as a woman wearing a turreted crown, and then developing as Finland gained a national consciousness and independence.

Poetically, the maiden Aura has been linked to her foster mother, Mother Svea, the personification of Sweden.

The Maiden of Finland can also refer to the shape of Finland on the map. With a little imagination it looks like a female form which has one hand raised (and another before the Moscow Armistice of 1944), a head, and a skirt. The metaphor is so commonly used that the northwestern area around Enontekiö is known as the Arm (Käsivarsi) even in official contexts.
