When fed properly and exercised these dogs have impressive stamina. They are excellent wolfhounds; some dogs are known to have killed wolves on their own, but this is rare. The number of boars in Turkey is increasing and people are starting to use Kangal dogs to hunt them, they are very suitable for this job. A lot of the so called Kangal dogs in Europe and America are mutts, they are being bred for looks, and for a softer temperament, a Kangal is a wolfhound and a dog that lacks the strength or correct temperament to do this job is not a Kangal. Dogs in Anatolia are often fed with barley mash, table scraps and bones, hence they do not get the required nutrients for them to fully grow and develop, yet a lot of them make excellent dogs.
