I just bought a G8 GT yesterday, I've had 4 Vettes (2 C4's, 1 C5 and an 02 Z06) and 2 late-model GT Mustangs; the last a Shelby.
The car is built better and faster that either of the Mustangs with a build quality comparable to the Vettes.
