Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace
This documentary is a 'must-have' for anyone who loves British ceremonial at its best and who wants to understand the special relationship between The Sovereign and her personal protection force.
The ceremony of Changing the Guard is as well known as Buckingham Palace itself. It has been a reassuring constant in the lives of many generations of British children.
Ever since A. A. Milne immortalised Christoper Robin's trip to watch the ceremony with Alice, parents have been bringing their children to show them the anonymous Guardsmen in their scarlet tunics and bearskin caps. Add to them the thousands of tourists who flock to the railings each day and you have a truly global audience for this most enduring and unashamedly British tradition.
But what is it all about? Why is the ceremony performed and who are the people that make it happen?
This documentary provides the viewer with a wonderful insight into the background and format of the parade along with the opportunity to hear from the people involved in its production.
