This comparison features the endings of both the anime and manga series, starting with the aftermath of the battle against Galaxia. Not only does the manga show the return to Earth and the reunion, but it also shows Usagi making an important decision. When asked whether she wants to start over again or if she wants to continue living as she is, she replies, "No matter how tough, I want to live this life!" While the anime shows simply a happy ending in which everything has become peaceful again, the manga gives the readers a glimpse of the future through Usagi and Mamoru's wedding. And while the anime ends full circle with the line "I'm Tsukino Usagi...I'm a bit rash and a crybaby," which was Usagi's first line in the first episode, the manga ends with Mamoru's thoughts: "Sailor Moon, you will always be invincible. The most beautiful shining star." These differences suggest that the anime and manga focus on slightly different aspects in their endings. By going full circle, the anime emphasizes that Usagi is still essentially the same girl she was in the beginning, except for the fact that she's now also Sailor Moon. On the other hand, the manga, by showing Usagi's decision to live her life no matter how tough it may be, emphasizes that she has grown into a mature woman. Though her kind heart has not changed, she is no longer a crybaby. Rather, she has truly become a shining star and an invincible soldier. Ending with the wedding and Mamoru's thoughts, the manga also emphasizes the love between Usagi and Mamoru.

THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA:
'Bunny' = 'Usa'
'Darien' = 'Mamo-chan'
'Rini' = 'Chibiusa'

MANGA SCENARIO:
In Act 49, Chibiusa returned from the 30th century to help Sailor Moon fight Galaxia. Later, she disappeared when Galaxia pushed Mamoru into the Cordon.
At the beginning of Act 52, Eternal Sailor Moon, along with Chaos, melted into the Cordon where stars are born so she could save everything.

IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES:
The manga shows Usagi and Mamoru's wedding.
In the manga, the Starlights and Kakyuu are not seen after the battle against Galaxia.

The background music during the manga section is "Forever Love" by Yoshiki.

The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into pieces so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. I also excluded the Starlights' departure from the anime portion in order to keep the video below the length limit.

There are websites where you can download the scans of the entire manga series! Please feel free to message me or comment this video to ask for a link to such a website. I'll be more than happy to send it to you!

Appropriately enough, this video will be the final comparison in this anime/manga comparison series. I originally started this project because I wanted to introduce more Sailor Moon fans to the manga. Since the beginning of this series, over a hundred people have asked me for links to websites where they can read the manga. Despite the immense amount of time and energy I used to make these videos, I can truly say that it was a wonderful experience and completely worth it after introducing so many people to the manga. Thank you for all your lovely comments and your endless support!

This comparison shows the differences in the portrayal of Seiya and Usagi's relationship in both the anime and the manga. In the manga, Seiya is aware that Mamoru's star seed has been taken by Galaxia and that he has physically died. Since Usagi was so traumatized by Mamoru's death that she has blocked the memory from her mind, Seiya tries to remind her of the reality of the situation by sending her postcards related to Galaxia. Furthermore, Seiya's feelings toward Usagi in the manga are not of unrequited love. Rather, she feels a deep respect for and strong desire to protect Usagi because she is a princess. This comes as no surprise because Seiya often suggests in the manga that Usagi reminds her of Princess Kakyuu, whom Seiya has sworn to protect. On the other hand, Seiya and Usagi's relationship is portrayed much differently in the anime. First, Seiya is completely unaware that Mamoru has died in the anime. This causes Seiya to feel that Mamoru is essentially a "jerk" for not contacting Usagi and that Usagi deserves someone better than Mamoru--perhaps, someone like himself. In the anime, Seiya falls in love with Usagi, and he even expresses his feelings openly to her near the end of the series. The anime creators also emphasized the "love triangle" by playing up the sexual tension between Seiya and Usagi (having them go on a date, having Seiya take a shower at Usagi's house, etc). After Kakyuu appears, Seiya is even shown as feeling conflicted by his duty to his own princess and his love for Usagi. While the manga focuses on Seiya's trying to tell Usagi about Galaxia and what has actually happened to Mamoru, the anime focuses on Seiya's unrequited love for Usagi and creates uncertainty in Usagi and Mamoru's relationship by introducing a new potential love interest into the story.

THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA:
'Bunny' = 'Usagi'
'Darien' = 'Mamo-chan'
MANGA SCENARIO:
Seiya has been placing postcards with pictures related to Galaxia inside Usagi's mailbox. Usagi thinks the cards were sent by Mamoru from America. Act 45 takes place after Mercury and Jupiter's star seeds have been taken by Galaxia. In Act 45, Mars and Venus' star seeds are also taken. Act 46 takes place after Princess Kakyuu has appeared.

IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES:
In the manga, Usagi and the Three Lights witness Mamoru's death at the airport.
In the manga, the Three Lights are physically females even before transformation, although they dress as males.

The background music during the manga section are two songs: "Week End" and "Say Anything" by Yoshiki.

The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into pieces so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. I also excluded some panels that were not crucial to this particular comparison in order to shorten the video length.

Kingdom Hearts - Letters usakoangel - 19,954 views - 1 year ago
Song: Letters
Ending Credits Song: Simple and Clean
Artist: Utada Hikaru
Game: Kingdom Hearts I & II

Note: The Japanese romaji lyrics are at the top and the English subtitles are at the bottom.
Credit for the romaji lyrics and translations goes mostly to Jonathan Wu of the Cherryblossom Garden.

Please try to ignore the game subtitles in certain parts of the video. They were the only clips of those scenes I could find (in good quality) and I apologize if they are distracting.

TRANSLATION NOTE: Amida-kuji is a Japanese lottery-like game that involves choosing a line and following it. If the line leads to a prize, then you win that prize. Each line leads to a definite point, but you won't know what that point is until you get there, kind of like life. =]

This is the first (and probably the last) Kingdom Hearts AMV I've made. I haven't played Kingdom Hearts in several years and have never beaten the game, but I recently watched several cutscenes here on Youtube, and I think I have a decent idea of how Sora and Kairi's separation and reunion went. When I first read the translated lyrics of this song, I felt that it described Kairi's point of view perfectly. While Sora goes to fight the forces of darkness, he leaves Kairi behind, and the two of them can't see or even talk to each other for a long time. Kairi wants to be with him, but all she can do, as the song says, is send letters and believe in his promise of returning.

One thing that I feel makes this song an especially good match for Kingdom Hearts is that it includes the lyrics: "Kanarazu kaeruyo" and "Okaeri," which translate to "I'll definitely return!" and "Welcome back," respectively. In Kingdom Hearts I, Sora's last line in the Japanese version is "Kanarazu zettai kaeru kara," which translates to "Somehow, I'll definitely return home!" and in the ending of Kingdom Hearts II, Kairi says "Okaeri," meaning "Welcome back" or "Welcome home" to Sora when he finally returns. I placed both of these scenes at the parts of the song where they match the lyrics, and I feel that this makes the meaning of the AMV even more special. = Informations about my HYD Vids =
I'm afraid this is the very last Hana Yori Dango editing I make. At least for now.
I had several problems with my old clips and I had to replace them but I just re-encoded them instead. So now Vegas keeps crashing. But I'm not in the mood to replace about 300 or 400 clips on the 700 I made. This is way too much and I'm way too lazy. Haha.
And to encode this video, I had to cut the vid into 3 parts and then re-encode it. I was about to kill myself when it finally worked. And being obliged to do that for a crappy vid like this... I'm sorry!
And if it was the only problem, it would be ok, but I have lots of hard work in placing those clips in Vegas (and my vids suck because it's annoying!). So if I feel like I can replace those 300 clips, I'll keep on creating fanvids, otherwise I will stop for now and dedicate my time to Boys Before Flowers instead.

= About the video =
I hope you, aneva123, will like it. I'm sorry I have you waiting for so long. I did it today because I had ideas. And it ended up that crappy. I'm sorry, I wish I could create a nice vid for you but instead you got that piece of crap. It's like I can't create new vids with HYD because of my encoding problems. I hope I will fix it.
I don't particularly like the Tsukasa/Tsukushi/Rui love triangle, but I guess this was kinda nice to do - even though the result sucks.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT:
This is the first part of a project I've decided to undertake to compare the Sailor Moon anime with the manga. The goal is to point out scenes that seem somewhat similar but are actually very different, especially in respect to how the characters are portrayed. If you would like to see how a particular scene in the anime was shown in the manga, or if you have read the manga and would like to suggest a scene comparison, feel free to request it and I'll see what I can do.

Although the anime was based on the original manga of Naoko Takeuchi, the animators changed a lot of things, including parts of the storyline and characterization. This is not to say that the anime completely ruined Takeuchi's story, since it did add more humor, color, and life to the story. However, being a team of all males, the animators were at times unable to fully connect with the female audience as Miss Takeuchi was able to. One major example of this is the obvious difference between anime Mamoru and manga Mamoru. While the male animators tried to portray anime Mamoru as more "manly" by making him stiff and aloof, Takeuchi portrayed manga Mamoru as, in the eyes of most girls, the ideal man: tender, loving, and strong. Because I'm rather disappointed with the anime portrayal of one of my favorite characters (Mamoru), you may notice that many of my comparisons will involve scenes with him and Usagi.

I hope that with this project, I can encourage more people to read the true, original masterpiece: the manga.

-----

This particular comparison compares Mamoru's departure in Episode 173 of the anime with Act 43 of the manga.

A FEW THINGS TO NOTE IN THIS VIDEO:
In the Tokyopop translation of the manga, 'Darien'='Mamo-chan', 'Bunny' (when said by Mamoru)='Usa'. Mamoru also sometimes calls her 'Buns,' which is the same as 'Usako.'

When the manga was translated from Japanese to English, all the pages were flipped to allow American readers to read from left to right (Japanese mangas read from right to left). That's why, in this video, it seems that Usagi's ring is on her right hand, when it is really her left in the original Japanese manga.

As you're watching, look at the way...
Mamoru & Usagi arrive at the airport TOGETHER in the manga.
Mamoru embraces & kisses Usagi in the manga vs. the anime.
MAMORU is the first one to say that he'll write and call Usagi in the manga.

------

This comparison is between Episode 61 of the anime (in which Mamoru breaks up with Usagi due to recurring dreams that predict her death if they stay together) and Act 18 of the manga.
These scenes may seem to have nothing in common, but they are important in showing the differences in characterization during the R season, especially for Mamoru. The breakup during the R season was likely added by the animators to create more emotional tension in the show (however, the manga had plenty of emotional appeal without sacrificing the integrity of Mamoru's character).

THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA:
'Darien' = 'Mamo-chan'
'Buns' = 'Usako'
MANGA SCENARIO: Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter have been kidnapped by the Black Moon Clan. Chibi-Usa (Rini) has just told Usagi and company that she came from the 30th century. Venus and Moon urge her to take them to the future so they can help her, but Chibi-Usa is reluctant. Tuxedo Mask, seeing that Chibi-Usa is worried, suggests that they stop pushing her for now. Usagi then suggests that they go home, at which point Chibi-Usa says she'll stay at Mamoru's place.

IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES:
In the manga, Mamoru never breaks up with Usagi.
As you can see for yourself, Mamoru is much more romantic and tender in the manga than in the anime.

The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into top and bottom halves so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily.

The song playing in the background for the manga section is called "Selenite" by Rurutia. I know it's not exactly the best music to read a romantic scene to, but the lyrics matched so perfectly that I just couldn't resist.

English translation of the chorus:
My heart begins to tremble as you pull me close so sweetly
Forever, always and forever, I want to hold you
So that you won't disappear

This comparison is between episode 46 of the anime and acts 12 & 13 of the manga. The scene being compared is the one in which Sailor Moon defeats Queen Metalia/Beryl at the end of Season 1. Overall, the manga seems to emphasize the power within Sailor Moon herself, rather than portraying Princess Serenity as her most powerful form. The manga also shows Sailor Moon receiving help from all her loved ones (including Luna and Mamoru) rather than just her friends (the four inner senshi).

THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA:
'Darien' = 'Mamo-chan'
'Bunny' = 'Usagi'
MANGA SCENARIO: In Act 11, Queen Beryl was killed by Sailor Venus with a sacred sword from the Moon Kingdom. After a struggle between the Sailor Senshi and evil Endymion, which ended with Sailor Moon stabbing Endymion and then herself with the sacred sword, an unconscious Sailor Moon and Endymion were swallowed up by Queen Metalia. Sometime during the process, Endymion/Mamoru was blinded. Luna and Artemis go to the moon to seek the aid of the spirit of Queen Serenity. Meanwhile, the four senshi use the power from their transformation pens, the same thing as laying down their lives, to attack Metalia and try to awaken Sailor Moon from within Metalia.

IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES:
In the manga, Sailor Moon battles Queen Metalia, rather than a combination of Beryl and Metalia.
Manga Mamoru is physically there to help Sailor Moon in the fight against Metalia.
The manga shows Luna's devotion to Usagi to be much deeper than it is in the anime.
Manga Sailor Moon does not turn into Princess Serenity in order to defeat Metalia.

The background music playing during the manga part is "Kurenai" by Yoshiki.

The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into pieces so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. I also excluded some panels that were not crucial to this particular comparison in order to shorten the video length.

I've recently been pulled into the awesomeness that is the Twilight fandom. Thus, my Sailor Moon obsession is kind of fading out. But even if that weren't the case, I'm just not much in the mood to make AMV's at the moment. It's just not something that I'd be able to put my heart into right now. I hope you guys understand. Please continue to watch, comment on, and rate my current videos! I really appreciate it! =]

I also enjoy making graphics, so that's why you'll probably see me changing my profile background rather obsessively. xD

If you'd like me to make you a profile background, feel free to message me with an idea of what theme you want, color preferences, quotes, characters, etc. Sailor Moon and Twilight requests only. I can't guarantee that I'll have time to make it, but I'll try my best. =]

Someone aught to put together a Sailor Moon video with the Captain EO/Michael Jackson song "We Are Going to Change the World." I was just thinking of that while watching the last half of the Captain EO video here on YT.

Yeah, it totally is, but there were some things I couldnt understand, or more over didn't like. XD
Apart from the fact that the book and the movie have some differences, I really didnt like Jasper's hair. Since the first time I saw the New Moon trailer, it has always bugged me. I almost cried out aloud 'OMG! Jazzy! What have they done!!!'
Oh, and they turned Jake into a cartoon dog, but everything else was awesome!

I always criticise what I like/love, I watch it so many times that it is almost impossible for me not to find faults in it XP

I know I keep apologising when I'm late but this is just ridiculous. It's taken me a month. I'm so sorry. >_<
But the party was pretty coool. =] And everyone at school seemed to manage to find out about the article, including my teachers. :\
Honestly, after watching the trailer for New Moon I'm not completely adverse to the new hair and make-up, and I definitely have a lot of faith in Chris.
Ah, that sounds like a good choice. Sony's usually reliable, and I've actually seen some of our news anchors with them. :P
I never actually got around to reading the manga, and I was actually about to start watching Sailor Moon again the other day, until I realised that the first disk, I think, is in my old desktop...which is with my uncle. sigh. But I've gone through Scrubs and Charmed since then. :D
