There are people, not always British themselves who from afar do an outstanding and example job in caring for British Citizens who may be living temporarily abroad. Those of us in this situation rely on the presence of the British Embassy and Consulates for assistance, qualified advice and general friendliness in times of despair. I am glad that the Honours nomination exists in this respect.

"But in those places where the presbytery took that office, though many other doctrines of the Church of Rome were forbidden to be taught; yet this doctrine, that the kingdom of Christ is already come, and that it began at the resurrection of our Saviour, was still retained. But cui bono? What profit did they expect from it? The same which the popes expected: to have a sovereign power over the people. For what is it for men to excommunicate their lawful king, but to keep him from all places of God's public service in his own kingdom; and with force to resist him when he with force endeavoureth to correct them? Or what is it, without authority from the civil sovereign, to excommunicate any person, but to take from him his lawful liberty, that is, to usurp an unlawful power over their brethren? The authors therefore of this darkness in religion are the Roman and the Presbyterian clergy."

I see Anna Wintour just got an award for wearing fur all of her life. Sounds like one selfish and exclusive group of people patting each other on the back.

one of my life dreams is to be awarded an honour by the queen herself. it is a brillient way to reward normal people for doing a good job in life and helping others and their community.

The honours system is well past it's sell by date. All it does is reinforce the class divide that is present in Britain. Let's not forget the use of honours as a reward for political favours. If I was ever offered a knighthood I would tell the Queen to stick it.
