P.O.T. (REMASTERED ALBUM)
P.O.T. arrived on the limping alternative music scene of Manila, Philippines, with the sound and fury of a fireball -- and then just as quickly burned out. The funky rock band was formed by Karl Roy (vocals), Ian Umali (guitar), Mally Paraguya (bass), and a musical-chairs roster of drummers in Manila in 1995. Roy was originally the lead singer of new wave veterans Advent Call in the first half of the '90s. P.O.T. enabled him to unleash his eclectic influences, shaping the group's high-energy mix of soul, rock, and acid jazz. The band debuted at the Music Museum, opening for the heavy metal combo Razorback. It was the beginning of a brief but explosive career, one that had them relentlessly gigging and flooring crowds with powerful live performances.
On November 18, 1996, the group was signed to PolyEast Records and immediately began recording its debut album. The self-titled CD was released in May 1997, and P.O.T. helped to resuscitate and bring creativity back to Philippine rock, which was losing the commercial impact it had in the early '90s. P.O.T. was among the headliners at the Puerto Azul Music Festival, and it seemed like the band was on its way to becoming hugely successful, winning numerous trophies from various award-giving bodies and receiving mass radio airplay in its home country. However, Roy was diagnosed with an infected heart valve, requiring him to undergo surgery, which put the group on a short hiatus. Umali later resigned from the band, reportedly wanting to further his education. P.O.T. later broke up. Roy then formed Kapatid with bassist Nathan Azarcon, guitarist Chico Molina, and drummer J-hoon Balbuena. Their eponymous first album came out in 2003.

YANO
Yano is a folk/punk rock band in the Philippines formed in 1993. The band members were originally composed of Dong Abay (vocals) and Eric Gancio (guitars). Onie Badiang later joined them as bassist; Nowie Favila was the usual drummer but declined to join the group due to commitments with Ang Grupong Pendong. Other drummers of the band included Nonong Timbalopez, Harley Alarcon and Jun Nogoy. The band got their name when Abay looked through an entry in "Talahulugang Pilipino", an old Tagalog dictionary. "Yano" in Tagalog means "simple", a term often used by Tagalog speakers in Quezon. The group was disbanded in 1997 after Dong Abay left the band.
As of 2007, Gancio revived Yano as a one-man band, although, there will be back-up musicians for live performances. In 2008, he will be releasing a new album, which he described as the fourth Yano album rather than his second album.
HISTORY:
In 1992, Dong Abay, Eric Gancio and Larry Mapolon met in Patatag, a progressive vocal ensemble. After a year, they decided to form a band called NG (pronounced as en-ji and derived from the Ng diagraph, which is included on the Filipino alphabet) with percussionist Renmin Nadela. Abay and Gancio remained and recruited musical arranger and bassist, Onie Badiang to the group. Eventually, the band's name was renamed to Yano. They recorded their demo at the home studio of alternative artist Joey Ayala in June 1993. One of the tracks, "Kumusta Na?," ("How Are You?") a song about the "EDSA Revolution", found its way to a local radio station where the group was first heard. This paved the way for Yano to become active in the local club circuit. Mayrics, Club Dredd, 70s Bistro were among the first clubs that Yano performed in. Drummers for the band included Nowie Favila (Ang Grupong Pendong), Nonong Timbalopez (Put3Ska, Ex President's Combo), Jun Nogoy (Coffeebreak Island) and Harley Alarcon (Rizal Underground).
In 1994, the band's self-titled debut album came out and spawned classic Filipino rock songs such as "Banal Na Aso, Santong Kabayo" ("Holy Dog, Saintly Horse"), "Tsinelas" ("Slippers") and "Esem" (wordplay for SM or Shoemart mall). This was followed by a string of successful concerts around the Philippine archipelago. Their first album from Alpha records (re-issued by BMG) reached quadruple platinum in 1994. After producing three studio albums, Abay quit during the late 1990s because of fame-induced pressure. The group later disbanded after Abays absence.
After quitting the band, Abay struggled with clinical depression and stayed only in his bedroom for about five years. He came out of depression while writing new songs set into poetry. He later called Badiang to borrow a guitar and jam. Eventually they formed another band, Pan with bassist Milo Duane Cruz and drummer Melvin Leyson. Abay got the term "Pan" after reading Tom Robbins' novel Jitterbug Perfume. They released their debut album entitled Parnaso Ng Payaso in 2003. Pan was later disbanded because Abay went back to school in U.P. Diliman. He released "Sampol" , an EP in 2005, which was later reborn into Flipino and released in May 2006. He is currently pursuing a career as an independent artist.
Gancio returned to his homeland in Davao after the demise of Yano. In 2004, he released an EP for his solo album Sa Bandang Huli. Gancio did all the instruments in his indie-released album and mixed the music in a PC-based software. Gancio is reviving Yano as a multi-instrumentalist and is currently performing as Yano in Davao with two session musicians. He will be releasing an album, which, according to Gancio, will be the "fourth Yano album."
Badiang played bass for Filipino folk/rock band Asin. He currently reconnected to Joey Ayala's Bagong Lumad while Favila is currently playing gigs outside the Phiippines.

THE JERKS
The Jerks was formed in 1979 and is perhaps the original alternative rock and blues band in the Philippines. The band has undergone a lot of member changes and notably a lot of the previous members of the band are now certified icons themselves in the music scene. Members like Jun Lupito, Angelo Villegas, and others have carved names in their respective niches. Former Put3ska drummer Brutus Lacano also plays session with the band..
Despite having been formed in 1979, they only released their debut record in 1994 entitled The Jerks Live, released under Gary Granada's Backdoor Records. It was recorded live at the legendary Mayric's bar and showcases the raw, passionate musicality of the band never before put into record.
By 1997, Star Records managed to convince the band to record a major label album called Haligi Ng Maynila produced by ABS-CBN's Gabby Lopez, which gave the band the opportunity to reach wider audience. This pave the way to band winning the 1998 NU Rock Award for Best Album and the 1998 Katha Award for Best Rock Song "Reklamo ng Reklamo".
The Jerks still perform regularly around Manila in bars like The 70s Bistro, Tiendesitas and Route 196 in Katipunan Extension.

ASIN
Asin (sometimes spelled ASIN, in all capital letters) is a Pinoy rock and folk rock band from the Philippines. They were formed during the 1970s and originally known as Salt of the Earth from the song of Joan Baez, but later Filipinized their name into "Asin", which means salt in Filipino language.
History:
bands during her teens, Lolita Carbon met Cesar "Saro" Bañares, Mike Pillora, and Pendong Aban in Kola House, a folk rock club, and then decided to form their own musical group, naming it Salt of the Earth.
They had signed a major record label and renamed their band to Asin after a record producer was searching for a "female" Freddie Aguilar, taking advantage of the Filipino folk rock boom during the late 1970s. Their eponymous 1978 debut album includes a cover of Freddie Aguilar's "Anak" and the rest are all original works.
Some of their popular songs include the environmental song "Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran" (See the Environment), "Ang Bayan Kong Sinilangan" (The Land Where I Was Born), "Pagbabalik" (Comeback) and "Balita" (News). According to Pendong Aban who grew up in Agusan del Norte, most of their songs were based on the experiences in Mindanao. Because of too much illegal logging and violence in their homeland, they wrote lyrics that hoped for peace and a better environment in Mindanao. They sometimes use kulintang and other traditional instruments of the southern Philippines to give their music a more indigenous spirit.
In 1993, Saro Bañares was murdered in a bar brawl in South Cotabato because he refused to sing for a lawyer, causing the group's members to part ways. Aban had his band Ang Grupong Pendong, while Carbon went solo.
One July evening in 1999, at a concert in Bahay ng Alumni at U.P. Diliman, while waiting for their respective turns to perform in a concert for press freedom, Pendong and Lolita sat together to share about their experiences as each carved a career of his/her own. One of the most common experiences they had in their concert tours is the audiences reaction when they sing songs of ASIN as part of their repertoire. From children to teenagers to old folks, the same reaction would be observed. It is both of reminiscence and amazement at hearing the songs again and watching an ASIN member performing live.
Later in 2000, they decided to reunite but Pillora backed out later, although Pillora gave his blessings to the new album that Carbon and Aban would release. The record album Pag-ibig, Pagbabago, Pagpapatuloy, the first Asin album after 12 years, features unreleased materials of the late Bañares.
Pendong and Lolita both acknowledged the fact that their songs have transcended three decades and yet the message that each song carries (from the seven albums that ASIN recorded) is still as relevant and as meaningful to the present times. Both recognized the fact that there is hunger for the music that relates to the present situation that Filipinos are in, whether they are in the country of their birth or in some other adopted land across the seven seas; music that tells of every Filipinos dream, aspiration, desires, even heartbreaks or social commentaries that reflect the true Filipino culture.
