In 2009, the meeting between the women's lacrosse teams of Syracuse and Loyola was more than just a meeting of Top 20 teams.
Walking the sidelines of Diane Geppi-Aikens Field were two players who are regarded as the absolute best to have ever played the game, Gary Gait and Jen Adams.
Adams, as a attacking midfielder for the University of Maryland, was Gait's protege while he was an assistant coach.
Now that both are head coaches, their teams and coaching staffs are extensions of their traits and personalities.

The Northwestern University women's lacrosse team has won four NCAA Division I championships in a row, and, thanks to a recruiting class that could be the best incoming class in more than a decade, is favored to win a fifth, if not more than that.
The innovative head coach Kelly Amonte-Hiller has built and refined what she has learned as an All-American at the University of Maryland and a three-time member of the U.S. World Cup team, but has also created a welcoming culture amongst the team, and has given her players something outside of the team to play for, thanks to their relationship with Jaclyn Murphy and the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.

Eastern High School in Voorhees, N.J. won its 10th straight state championship in 2008, becoming the first field hockey program in the history of the National Federation to do so.
The streak has been built on a combination of early exposure to the sport though top-flight middle-school programs, a varsity head coach and staff with high-performance tactical knowledge, a community willing to support its athletics programs, and numerous families who have embraced the game and passed it along to their children.
The team is in the Federation record books for its record 151 straight games without a loss, a 93-game win streak, and for breaking the 125-goal barrier on numerous occasions throughout the last decade.

There has been an influx of male head and assistant coaches in NCAA Division I field hockey the last decade. Eight head coaches now patrol the sidelines where there had been one until 1999. Male assistants are on almost every coaching staff. Why is this so?
