Just off the main drag in Tahoe there is a sign that says "Trout Fishing -- No License Required". We took our four year old daughter up the road to try out some fishing, as she was very excited. Little did we know we'd be handed a simple fishing pole with huge hook, a dirty rag, a cracked bucket, a mystery brown bait ball, and a sawed-off steel rod. Tom was admonished by a man with four teeth to "whack 'em dead behind the gills -- you can't let 'em suffer and you can't toss 'em back". With Clare already excited to fish, Tom tried to be game. After the second fish lost its eyeball due to the gruesome whack, Tom had had enough. We were so traumatized by the utter absurdity of the event that we had to go back and have a few beers around the campfire and try to laugh at the strange, strange twist our afternoon had taken!!!
