Paul Talks About Destroyed Homes thestudent - 106 views - 1 day ago
How could something that caused so much damage, get so little attention in the media? Guess that's what YouTube is for.

Cyclone Aila Destroys Rural Supply Chain thestudent - 149 views - 2 days ago
In rural villages like this in Bangladesh, most villagers rely on local shops in the community for their basic needs. When Cyclone Aila came, it destroyed many homes and washed away many stores like this. With the community supply chain broken, many villagers are left struggling to find even the basic necessities.

Young Cyclone Victim Talks to Paul thestudent - 632 views - 3 weeks ago
This young villager has seen not one but two devastating cyclones.

In the process of recovering from Cyclone Sidr (2007), this recent Cyclone (Aila in 2009) resulted in a great many homes being damaged or destroyed. As this young cyclone victim points out, Sidr had much fiercer winds but Aila still had devastating flooding.

Thanks to Save the Children, family, and a local in Bangladesh who helped me translate what "bhita" means. There are many interpretations but this blog post helps explain how I sorted it out:

Rainwater Catchment & Sanitation in Kenya thestudent - 281 views - 3 weeks ago
While visiting Kenya last year, I was able to check out a system where people can collect rainwater and use it as a source of water for sanitation and other needs. It's cheap and environmentally friendly.

Thanks to Hillary from Vestergaard Frandsen for giving me a tour of this health center. This health center was used as part of their Integrated Prevention Demonstration - where people in this rural village got free HIV tests, mosquito nets, and water purification devices.
