A 25-year-old young man happily lives out of his van to save money for his music career, in one of Aucklands smartest suburbs.

Robert Harris, or The Robba as he calls himself on his CD, has lived in his van for the last six months in order to save money and buy music equipment.

Harris says there is little money to be made in music and he doesn't earn much as a movie projectionist at an Auckland cinema.

When I first started doing it I didnt have much money, says Harris.

I pretty much had to sleep in my van while I was working and then I wanted to save to produce my first album, which I did, he says.

Harris lives in his van five days a week and spends weekends at his parents place in Northland, where he has built his own recording studio.

He recorded his debut album at his parents home and also uses the venue for shooting his own music videos.
