Grown from the seed of friendships spanning over two decades now, The New Familiars are a Charlotte, NC based band turning heads up and down the east coast circuit. Originally conceived as a collaboration between former childhood cohorts
Eric-Scott Guthrie and Justin Fedor for kicks, it soon became apparent from the strength of their storytelling and their ability to weave words into an enticing musical tapestry that they were tapping into something far beyond their own expectations. Through these strong early songwriting efforts and the public's subsequent reaction they recruited another childhood friend, James Stratford. Performing as 'The Fedor and Guthrie Trio', the three old chums began hitting east coast clubs and venues to noteworthy success.

Their stage presence, musical ability, and sheer energy captivated crowds with their upbeat songs, while their depth and delicacy inherent in their softer works often would hush the audience as they hung on the words and harmonies. During this period the most common comment heard was along the lines of "Did you guys really write that? I thought it was a take on a traditional... it's different, but seems so familiar." With this in mind and recognizing that their sound was growing far beyond the scope of just the two songwriters, they hunkered down to redefine their project. Grace of their fans' observations, the band 'The New Familiars' was born.

Looking to stretch their music further, the three friends started collaborating with Josh Daniel, a talented fixture as a solo musician in the Charlotte music scene, who came on board to add vocals, a different songwriting perspective, the occasional backbeat, and some old-school touches with the dobro and lap steel.

Writing folk music from the core - of the people, by the people, and for the people - while incorporating the multitudes of influences that each of the members bring to the table, this band is a powerful swell in a new wave of honest roots-derived rock n' roll that is sweeping the nation in the wake of a very tumultuous time in our history.
