CHOICEZ is the true story of Aginah Carter-Shabazz, an African-American woman, raised in West Philadelphia down the "bottom". Her story is about the price women pay for making their men's choices their own. Barely out of her teens, Aginah moves in with a militant. In her presence, he is killed in the bloody drug-war orchestrated by the so called Black Mafia at Club Harlem in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Easter Sunday, 1972. Soon afterwards she marries a Philadelphia first lieutenant later appointed to "brother minister" in the Nation of Islam. Throughout the memoir, Aginah learns and grows, but the lesson of her poor choices doesn't fully take hold until, as a woman in her forties, she finds herself married to a handsome young man of the streets and professional jewel thief, a man from who she barely escapes with her sanity.
