Here's a classic police training film called "Use Your Eyes."

I guess they showed this film to the cops in training so they could detect "evidence of marijuana, hashish, or narcotics violations" during their daily searches of local homes. Apparerently through this film, they learned some serious, top-secret information such as "marijuana cigarettes are called joints," and "marijuana has an odor that is easy to identify."

One of my favorite parts is where they show the bag of pot- it looks like dried lettuce and there are stems in there the size of tree branches. And my favorite line has to be where the guy is smoking hash and Sgt. Joe Friday's voiceover says "And another potential narcotics victim floats out of the world of reality toward a midnight of eventual regret and despair."

This all seems silly and heavy-handed in hindsight, but circa 1965-1975 they took this as serious as you can imagine, hence the focus on ending the menace of the pot smokers.
