It maybe tongue-in-cheek but Great Britain's greatest Olympian, Sir Steve Redgrave, thinks Extreme Ironing could become an Olympic sport. The sport is now seen all over the world and the inventor even took extreme ironing for a spin, or should we say 'Steam', in America. For all these reasons, we think Extreme Ironing is a top contender for the 2012 Olympics. Great Britain maybe a land of eccentrics, but it also a nation that has invented several sports. Sadly our ability to win at an international level has diminished for many of these, so it is fitting that we offer Extreme Ironing to our HUTC Alternative Olympics line-up as an Englishman invented the sport and Team GB won the only ever world championships. It is perhaps the most bizarre sport ever conceived. At the World Championships, competitors were tested on their abilities to cope with five ironing tasks on a variety of fabrics and in different environments ranging from rocky to forest, urban and water. Their final test was to show their flair in the Freestyle section.
