The video for "L. Wells" is in black and white, and features many venues in Glasgow, Scotland, including The Château, where Franz Ferdinand played many songs in their early days. It follows a woman going around Glasgow. However, this woman is not the Lynsey Wells about whom the song was written. Lynsey, originally from Maghull, Liverpool, was actually on holiday assisting in an orphanage and church in Africa when Franz Ferdinand decided to release the track. The video is inspired by Rita Tushingham in A Taste of Honey and, particularly, Julie Christie in Billy Liar. Lynsey is played by Saskia Pomeroy, a student at Glasgow School Of Art. None of the members of the band appear in the video. The video premiered on MTV's UK website on 24 March 2006.

Rita Tushingham was propelled into stardom with The Girl with Green Eyes. She plays a gawky young rural Irish girl who takes a room with a wise-cracking Dublin lass (Lynn Redgrave). Enter a middle-aged writer (Peter Finch), who makes a beeline for the shy, lonely Tushingham--completely ignoring her more worldly roommate. Girl with Green Eyes was liberally based upon Edna O'Brien's novella The Lonely Girl. With this one film, Rita Tushingham not only became bankable, but also what is known as a "critic's darling", meaning that she could do no wrong in the eyes of certain male reviewers. The bloom was off the rose fairly quickly, and soon Ms. Tushingham found herself contractually committed to one second-string project after another, including an ill-advised reteaming with actress Lynn Redgrave and director Desmond Davis in the resistible Smashing Time (67).

Aspiring switched on pop dolly Yvonne records a song called 'I Can't Sing But I'm Young. It sounds awful but after some mixing by the studio engineers it's smashing and she's an immediate chart sensation. Fame and fortune follow and she is featured in 'Mini Trends' magazine which is very pacey.

Smashing Time was made in 1967 and is a satirical comedy about the swinging sixties. At the end you can see the real pop promo that this sequence parodies and I think you will laugh!
