original poem from June 15, 2009

some air, a little water,
shelter from the storm
and the cold cutting knife of the wind,
a boat with no holes in it
and a fast sure horse.

my wants are few,
my needs fewer still
because
the more you have,
the greater is the loss

so

bright pink flowers pasted
onto a hard blue sky,
clouds without rain hearts
when it's too bright to see,
someone to carry my pack for awhile,
someone who loves me for me.

I live in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia in a very rugged and isolated area called the Blue Ridge. It is beautiful and quietly majestic here with only the sounds of the creek, the birds and the wind for company. It's perfect.

The main principle that guides my life is kindness. I love writing and music, photography and art ... and I try to find beauty and meaning in all the things around me. To quote Nelson Henderson: ''The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit.''
