Deze groep vliegenzwammen van uiteenlopende ouderdom biedt een schilderachtige aanblik. Wanneer de paddestoel zich ongestoord kan ontwikkelen, zijn de witte wratten op de rode hoed vrijwel geometrisch precies gerangschikt. De wratten zijn resten van het algemeen omhulsel.
In het begin zit een 1cm breed, gewelfd hoedje op een 3cm dikke knol. Met het uitspreiden van de hoed worden de wratten uit elkaar getrokken, strekt de steel zich en raakt het gedeeltelijk omhulsel dat de plaatjes bedekt los van de hoedrand.
De vliegenzwam is een plaatjeszwam. Een gehele hoed brengt ongeveer 2 miljard sporen voort.
De vliegenzwam is een gevaarlijke soort, met op de zenuwen inwerkende gifstoffen.
Berken, dennen en sparren zijn de boomsoorten waarmee de vliegenzwam mycorrhizas vormt. Een mycorrhiza is letterlijk vertaald schimmel-wortel. Het is een symbiose, een samenleven tot wederzijds voordeel, van een schimmel met het wortelsysteem van planten.

The goanna or monitor lizard is a common sight in Australia. It features prominently in Aboriginal mythology and Australian folklore. The Lace Goanna or Lace Monitor (Varanus varius) is the second largest Australian goanna and can grow to two metres. If a Lace Monitor feels threatened it will definitely race for the nearest tree. Like other goannas they hunt and forage for their food on the ground. Goannas combine predatory and scavenging behaviour. A goanna will prey upon any animal it can catch that is small enough to eat whole.
The best known monitor lizard is one of the biggest species, the Komodo Dragon (varanus komodoensis)

The name goanna was given to Australian monitor lizards by the early European settlers. They thought the monitor lizards looked like the South American Iguanas.

Johnstons crocodile is a relatively small crocodile. It is a fresh water crocodile and occupies various fresh water areas such as lagoons, rivers, billabongs, and swamps.
The shape of the snout is unusually narrow and tapering, lined with numerous sharp teeth. It feeds on fish, insects, small invertebrates, amphibians, mammals, and birds. This crocodile favors a sit-and-wait hunting strategy, snatching prey up with a lightning-fast sideways movement of the head.
freshwater crocodiles are less dangerous than their saltwater cousins. They usually avoid humans.
In western Australia they were protected by law in 1962, and in 1964 in the Northern Territory. Queensland did not pass its protective laws until 1974. Illegal hunting continues but the main threat is the destruction of habitat. Small-scale ranching and farming of these crocodiles exists.

The short-beaked Echidna (tachyglossus aculeatus) is covered in fur and spines and has a distinctive snout and a specialized tongue, which it uses to catch its prey at a great speed. The Short-beaked Echidna is an egg-laying mammal (monotremes)
The echidna forages around at dawn and dusk, and feeds on ants and termites. It is a toothless animal, it invades an ant or termite nest with its forepaws or snout and extends its long tongue into the chambers. Insects stick to the stick saliva of the tongue and are chewed between a horny pad at the back of the tongue and a similar pad on the palate.
Echidnas can curl into a ball of radiating spines if they are suddenly disturbed. Or, if on soil, they can dig beneath the surface while remaining horizontal to disappear like a sinking ship. It can also wedge itself securely in a rock crevice or hollow log by extending its spines and limbs.
Due to their sharp spines, they have no significant predators, but young echidnas may be eaten by large goanna.

De mierenegel is samen met het vogelbekdier en de vachtegels het enige nog voorkomende zoogdier dat eieren legt.

The wombat is a marsupial and lives in Australia. Like other marsupials, a wombat gives birth to a tiny, undeveloped young (a joey) that crawls into the pouch on its mothers' belly. The joey remains in its mother's pouch for about five months before emerging. Even after it leaves the pouch, the young animal will frequently crawl back in to nurse or to escape danger. The mule deer (odocoileus hemionus) is a deer whose habitat is in the western half of North America. They are found from the Arctic Circle in the Yukon to northern Mexico. These deer have chosen the Grand Canyon for habitat.
The mule deer gets its name from its large prominent ears. It has a white tail with a black tip. A well-known subspecies of the mule deer is the black-tailed deer, which as its name suggests has an all black tail.
Mule Deer feed on a variety of different foods, including twigs, shoots, grasses, leaves, seeds and berries. The diet depends on the type of habitat in which they live, in more woodland areas a greater variety of food will be eaten than in desert areas.
Adult male mule deer are called bucks, adult females are called does, and young of both sexes are called fawns. Males have antlers, which are shed and regrown every year.
