The Trust: Learning Trust, Finding Hope

In America, 1-in-31 adults are under the umbrella of Corrections, and each day 4,302 children are arrested and enter this cycle. This phenomenon has created a silent crisis that is felt most profoundly by the millions of children with parents behind bars. As our nation continues to debate prison reform, THE TRUST explores how and why these children follow their families into this generational cycle of poverty and recidivism.

Putting a human face on the issue of incarceration, THE TRUST follows three men determined to stop the cycle for themselves, their families and their communities. The mens experiences are contextualized by expert testimony, which explores the historical and contemporary Corrections System providing a framework to understand how our prison population has grown from 200,000 to over 2.3 million in less than 40 years.

Inspired by a self-help group in San Quentin led by the incarcerated men, THE TRUST is ultimately about those moments that define us sometimes irreparably in societys eyes. Some of the men find purpose, others success, and many slip into old patterns and behaviors, each compelling you deeper into their world.
