When approached by Spread the Net to be an Ambassador, Glen Pearson, MP London North Centre didn't hesitate. For almost 30 years, he has suffered from malaria. In 2002, he and his wife adopted their daughter, who also has malaria, from war-torn Darfur, Sudan. At the time Mr. Pearson had been told that his daughter's family had all been killed, but on a return trip to visit her village, they discovered their daughter's identical twin sister and older brother. They have since adopted the other two children who are being treated for malaria in Nairobi before coming to Canada.
Glen Pearson has been an active community figure in London since he first became a professional firefighter 29 years ago. Involved in numerous causes over the years he became perhaps best known as the volunteer director of the London Food Bank. In 1998, along with his wife Jane Roy, Glen began human rights and development work in Sudan. This work has included building schools and infrastructure, fighting modern day slavery, community development and supporting local enterprises as they enter into the competitive world market system.

Having seen first-hand the ravages of malaria in Africa during his 111 day ultra marathon
Having seen first-hand the ravages of malaria in Africa during his 111 day ultra marathon foot race across the Sahara desert, Ray Zahab was a willing Ambassador for Spread the Net.
Winner of some of the world's most difficult and challenging ultra-distance foot races, Ray Zahab is motivated by challenge, distance and discovery. Starting his athletic career as a professional equestrian competitor, it was not until the late nineties that Ray competed in his first adventure race, started rock and ice climbing, and left a pack-a-day smoking habit behind him. From bike racing to running, ultra-marathoning took Ray from the cold north of Canada to the Amazon jungle. On November 1, 2006 Ray and two other runners set out on an epic expedition to cross the Sahara Desert by foot. The epic expedition had the trio running an average of 70km's a day for 111 days, without a single day of rest. Having dream become reality, Ray has become a unique voice of inspiration and motivation. He has pushed the limits of endurance beyond what has ever been done before. The documentary film about the expedition, Running The Sahara, will be released in September 2007 in an effort to raise awareness of the water crisis in Africa.
