Cruel, Cruel Moon spiffworld - 27,619 views - 3 weeks ago
This song was an entry in Quick Stop Entertainment's "Masters of Song-Fu 2" songwriting contest. The challenge was simply to write a song about the moon. Oddly, Paul & Storm's entry was the only song about a werewolf, which you'd think would be a no-brainer in a moon song contest.

The song at the end of the video is "Frogger! The Frogger Musical", another great Paul & Storm song (coincidentally, a Song-Fu entry as well, for a different challenge).

Tom Cruise Crazy spiffworld - 111,591 views - 3 months ago
As Jonathan Coulton wrote in his blog when he first released this song, there's something kind of sad about people who succeed so completely at becoming rich and famous that they stop existing on the same planet as the rest of us and start living in some other universe altogether. This song pokes fun at Tom Cruise for losing it puclicly like he did, but it also seems to pity him a bit as well. Tom may be nuts, but he does make good action films, and it's not pleasant to see anyone go off the deep end like that.

Special thanks to my Co-Creative Director on this video, Nick Bayhi. Nick came up with most of the clever movie titles on the posters, as well as the idea for the video's ending. As Nick put it, "if he's so crazy and narcissistic, he should just marry himself". Genius!

(Note to Tom Cruise, if he's watching this -- hey Tom, we're just having fun playing with the stereotypes here. Nothing personal. No reason to get upset or sue anyone, right? So, you and me, we're still cool? Call me. :)

The song at the end of the video is "Over There", another great Jonathan Coulton song.

Shop Vac spiffworld - 103,939 views - 6 months ago
This song is an ode to suburban angst, which is where people move out to the suburbs to get big houses with big yards and driveways, and everything seems great until they begin to realize that there's nothing to do in the suburbs except go to strip malls and eat at chain restaurants and wait until the kids grow up and leave you.

This phenomenon is exemplified in the shop vac, a tool found in many suburban garages for sucking up leaves, dirt, nails, or whatever. When you first use a shop vac, it seems like the most awesome thing ever. But then you realize it's just a vaccum cleaner.

Please note: I (Spiff) have no problem with suburbs. I've lived in them all my life, and as near as I can tell, my soul hasn't been drained by the experience. But then, how would I be able to tell
if it had... ?

The song at the end of the video is "A Talk With George", another great Jonathan Coulton song.

The Captain's Wife's Lament spiffworld - 255,810 views - 9 months ago
Just in time for "Talk Like A Pirate Day" (Sept. 19, every year)

"The Captain's Wife's Lament" is Paul and Storm's closing song for their live act. They get everyone
into the action by having the audience call out the "arrrs" at the appropriate (and sometimes inappropriate) times. It's a great show.

Think you know about pirates? See if you can answer these piratical riddles you're likely to hear at a Paul and Storm concert:

What is a pirate's favorite crime?

What kind of socks do pirates wear?

What's a pirate's favorite droid?

What's a pirate's favorite half of a 1960s folk singing duo?

What's a pirate's favorite restaurant?

(answers are on my site, www.spiffworld.com)

This is my first non-Jonathan Coulton video, although it sounds like a Coulton song, right? It's not.

Paul and Storm and Jonathan Coulton were finalists in Quick Stop Entertainment's "Masters of Song-Fu" songwriting competition. The challenge was for each finalist to write a song that sounded like it had been written by the other finalist. "Live" was P&S's fabulous Coulton-esque entry.

The song was such a good match of Coulton's style in fact, I just had to tie this video in with one of my previous Coulton videos as well (you should have no trouble figuring out which one).

I want to give proper credit for some of the most important elements in this video -- I couldn't figure out a proper ending for the video, and it was my mom who suggested that Dr. Skullcrusher (or whatever his name is) die so The Bride could live (thanks Mom). Also, I was just going to have the video end with a big fight scene, but my wife came up with the great idea of The Bride and Igor wanting to bring Dr. Skullcrusher back to life with the dead villager's body parts (loved it).

The song at the end of the video is "Opening Band", another great Paul and Storm song.

The voices in this song are sampled from a Kentucky Fried Chicken fast-food training video Jonathan Coulton found online. Something about it struck him, and he turned it into a song.

This video was made for a Machinima.com UK video contest. However, since I don't live in the UK, I had to get my buddy Kerrin from the "Jonathan Coulton Project" (http://jocopro.libsyn.com), who does live in the UK, to enter the video in the contest instead. WE WON!

Be sure to check out Jonathan Coulton's Web site for lots more clever, creative songs like this one.

The song at the end of the video is "Better", another great Jonathan Coulton song.

This video won't make any sense unless you've seen Jonathan Coulton's original Flickr video. You can find it on his website, so go watch it now:

In 2005, Jonathan Coulton poked around on Flickr.com, found some photos he liked, and turned them into a song and video. It is purposely random. So this song already had a video and didn't need one from me. But I received an email from a fan named Kytyn encouraging me to make one anyway. She even helped by providing ideas for some of the shots (thanks Kytyn). It was a different kind of video than my others, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

The song at the end is "Sweet Caroline", a Neil Diamond song that Jonathan and Paul & Storm have been ending their live performances with. "Sweet Caroline" makes for a sweet group sing-along. Jonathan Coulton concerts are a lot of fun.

I Feel Fantastic spiffworld - 696,577 views - 2 years ago
As Contributing Troubador for PopSci Magazine, Jonathan Coulton made this song for one of their articles which described how, in the future, people may be able to take a pill to let them feel however they wanted. That may not be such a great thing...

This video is an entry in the PopSci Jonathan Coulton/I Feel Fantastic video contest.
