We all have to show extreme commitment and dedication and carry out the commands and instructions of the leader, no matter how hard they are, for the cause of our country." -- Words of Hamid Idris Awate founder of the Eritrean revolution 1961.
"Up to now, I have never served nor become a messenger for any foreign power or interest. I am an enemy to any kind of slavery, in all its shapes and colors. No man, be he European or African, can force me into the yoke of any kind of bondage. If there be some one who dares to attempt my assassination in order to force me to submit to doing things contrary to my feeling and will, then I also have in me the courage to die for my political beliefs, for the cause of liberty of my country, and for the genuine interest of my brothers and sisters." -- Woldeab Woldemariam in Hanti Eritra, Issue # 88, August 22, 1951. Woldeab Woldemariam was Eritrean intellectual in the nineteen forties, popular writer and a true patriot who struggled for the independence of Eritrea.

Avoid religious, ethnic and regional differences and confront your foes by forging solid unity" -- Words of Sheikh Ibrahim Sultan to EPLF's second congress in 1987. -- Sheikh Ibrahim Sultan was founder of Al Rabita Al Islamiya party and one of the founding fathers of the struggle that made Eritrean Independence possible.
"By logic, the Nation of Eritrea (pop. 3 million) should not exist. The secessionist province's independence fighters ought never to have defeated Ethiopia in their 30-year-long struggle. They were outmanned, outgunned, abandoned or betrayed by every ally; their cause was hopeless. They won by force of character, a unity and determination so steely not all the modern armaments, super power support or economic superiority of Ethiopia could withstand it. The spirit that saw the Eritreans through 10 years in the trenches of their mountain redoubt at Nakfa has built them a Nation from scratch; since independence was finally consummated in 1993." -- TIME Magazine - Issue March 30, 1998

Yes, life is full of trying times. But pioneers, who can see the light across the tunnel, believing in human spirit of beating odds & over coming difficulties, always chart their own destiny.
Eritrea, remains classical example of human spirit in overcoming odds, successfully.
Critics will always condemn the journey, but "the camel marches on till the end of his destiny, while the dogs alwaysbark". I dare you to prove me wrong!!!
