soundSCAPE facilitates the exchange of new music, ideas, and culture between musicians of tomorrow's generation. soundSCAPE provides composers and musicians an international platform for performances of new music, attracting participants from around the world for an exciting week of lectures, master classes, and workshops.

The 2008 festival offers performance studies and composition opportunities in flute, guitar, mandolin, piano, percussion, violin, and voice. The music of emerging composers is featured in open rehearsals, the Composition Colloquium, and in recorded performances. In turn, performers receive coaching from composers, complementing instruction in modern performance techniques from an internationally renowned faculty. The experiences of soundSCAPE resonate well beyond the festival, as participants develop a myriad of collaborative initiatives resulting in future commissions, performances, and careers. <b>new horizons in 2008</b>

Originally established in Tuscany as the Cortona Contemporary Music Festival, the event now lives on as soundSCAPE; dedicated to Sound, Composition, And Performance Exchange. The event will be hosted at the Vittadini School of Music in Pavia, Italy. Built in the 16th century, the school features a newly renovated 350-seat concert hall along with ample pianos and practice facilities.

We have an exciting roster of visiting artists, offering workshops and lectures in contemporary musicology, improvisation, microtonal composition, Italian language study, and more. Not to mention the addition of new faculty for performance studies in voice and percussion! Participants can also take in an opera at the renowned La Scala theatre, stroll Milan's fashion district, or sample the region's exquisite cuisine. With additional scholarships and a lower tuition (including all meals), this year's festival is an event NOT to be missed!
