Dog Learning SAR Indication (2-of-2) skywidede... - 4 views - 23 hours ago
Boudica has just performed this exercise, and previously needed to bounce back and forth between her Handler and the reward (subject with hidden toys). See how quick she learned the behavior (pulling off ball) to get her reward faster in this sequence.

SAR Puppy (Sirius) Plays with Strangers skywidede... - 239 views - 1 year ago
An integral part of youth for a young Search and Rescue dog is to play with strangers. After all, the dogs have to feel confident around people in order to find them. Sirius is learning that people are great fun, by independently playing with strangers away from his Handler.

SAR dog learning New Indication skywidede... - 123 views - 4 months ago
Sirius is learning a new behavior ina sequence of steps - all in order to get his reward (play & toys). He "finds" the person and returns to his Handler, where he is supposed to Jump on him to "indicate". Sirius is young and still learning, so on the first attempt, he leaves before indicating, which fails to get him his toys. So he bounces back to his Handler - and performs the desired Jump - upon which his "subject - comes alive" and he can run back and get his reward. This short sequence is a small part of the big picture which will eventually become Sirius searching for hours and indicating a "find" with this Jump.

Search & Rescue Pup trains for Jump Indication skywidede... - 196 views - 4 months ago
Sirius WAS previously training for a Tug indication, but he jumped every time he tugged - so his Handler simplified the indication to just a Jump, (which alleviates having to carry a dangling toy while working.) Note the cues to help the dog get everything right - as well as the "subject" coming alive as soon as the dog has performed the desired behavior - which reinforces the behavior even more.

Cooper puppy out for a walk skywidede... - 1,954 views - 1 year ago
At 11 weeks, Cooper, our German Shepherd puppy, is walking on the left side with 'Look' instead of 'Heel'. His ears are starting to stick up all the time now. As a GSD, we want him to experience as many new and fun things as possible: socialization.

Agitating the puppy to build play-drive skywidede... - 1,067 views - 1 year ago
We're working on Cooper's play-drive. We deny him and taunt him with his favorite toy: chamois on a buggy whip. Then we release him to let him 'win' it. Playing this game several times a day has made him crazy for the chamois.

Obedience work with German Shepherd - 14wks old skywidede... - 16,339 views - 1 year ago
At 14wks, German Shepherd puppy, Cooper, needs to practice basic obedience in all conditions. This is his first time seeing snow. He has learned a lot in the past 3 weeks. We worked on his basic commands of: come, sit, down, stay, talk (1 bark), tell me (2+ barks).

1/5 - Search & Rescue dog training - bark indication skywidede... - 1,684 views - 1 year ago
This 8-month old dog is training for SAR on a Find/Refind (Recall/Refind) with a bark alert. The Handler is attempting to increase the number of barks from the dog from 1 to at least 3.
In this first video, the Handler was hesitant, and releases the dog for reward before he should have. The next 4 videos show how the Handler teaches the dog the desired number of barks by backing up a step in the recall-refind sequence.

2/5 - Search & Rescue dog training - bark indication skywidede... - 1,280 views - 1 year ago
In this second video, the Handler 'backs up' to a previous step in training chain of events: starting the dog with the subject. The eager dog gives the desired number of barks (at least 3) and is rewarded. Notice the subject cheers at the right time to reinforce the correct behavior.

In this third video, the Handler repeats the 'backed up' step in training chain of events: starting the dog with the subject. Since the dog repeats the desired number of barks (at least 3), the Handler is confident that a lasting impression ahs been made. The dog is ready to try a full sequence again.
