A rare, late night, June thunderstorm rumbles over the city of Manteca, California at 1:10 am and continues to 1:21 pm. There was a ton of lightning and brisk winds with this one. The reason, these types are thunderstorms are rare, because June is usually where the state of California transistions into the driest part of the year and thunderstorms that do occure during this time of the year, are usually heated by afternoon sun and die off as the sun sets. These thunderstorms are associated with an area of low pressure system passing overhead and creating an unstable enough atmosphere to keep these going well after the sun went down. The tunderstorms were unusually strong prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Severe Thunderstorm Warning earlier in the day for Colusa and Placer Counties. This was not a Severe Thunderstorm, but put on a spectacular show none the less.
