Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) today spoke on the Senate floor to respond to Republican attacks regarding the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committees consideration of health care reform legislation. Dodd led the HELP Committee this past summer when it approved the Affordable Health Choices Act. Nearly 150 Republican amendments are reflected in the Senate health care bill.
We may have disagreements about the health care bill. That's nothing new at all here. But I want the record to reflect the efforts that have been made for over a year now to involve our colleagues across the spectrum. During the HELP Committee markup—I will mention it over and over again—we considered 287 amendments. 161 of thoseaccepted were Republican amendments, said Dodd. You can vote against the bill if you want, but dont suggest to me that this process denied people a chance to be heard, to be involved, and to be engaged. I will not accept the notion that theres been a refusalto listen to bipartisan ideas as part of this bill.

Following a tour of the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Senator Chris Dodd (D- CT) unveiled his new, comprehensive jobs agenda that will allow businesses to expand and add jobs, access credit, and put Connecticuts unemployed workers back to work.
While our national economy shows promising signs of turning around, times are still tough for workers and small businesses in Connecticut. Record-high unemployment, state and local budgets stretched to the breaking point, and a lack of available credit for businesses have all put a squeeze on families across the state, said Dodd.
Connecticut needs new jobs now—which means helping businesses expand and add critical jobs that will help put our state back to work. By investing in innovative new technologies, providing resources that allow our small businesses to grow, and making common-sense investments in our communities, my jobs agenda will move Connecticut in the right direction in the coming weeks and months.
