Sekou (tha misfit) has performed privately for Oprah Winfrey, Barack Obama, Maya Angelou, Norman Lear, P-Diddy, Hillary Clinton, Quincy Jones, Al Gore and Coretta Scott King & family; and shared the stage with such artists as Jill Scott, Robin Williams, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, and the Black Eyed Peas. Publicly he has featured on ABC World News, Good Morning America, MSNBC, HBO's Def Poetry, BET's Lyric Café, Showtime, MTV, Nike.com, and Artisan Films' Belly DVD. A previous school teacher whose workshops on diversity, spoken word, and careers in poetry are in high demand, Sekou's comedic, political, and motivational range of work has inspired diverse audiences at unprecedented venues - from the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, to the ACLU National Membership Conference, to the NCAA National Leadership Conference. Students across the globe have been moved by his electric energy during his two national tours, including The Underground Poets Railroad, a benefit tour for fallen firefighters from 9/11, and Declare Yourself, a nonpartisan voting initiative that registered over 1 million young voters.
