Attention scientists, patient advocates, and community allies!

Comment on these videos with your own thoughts on the importance of federal funding for medical research.

We know that there is nothing more important to the American people than their health. Investment in medical research to improve health, develop treatments, and cure disease is an American priority, and the moral responsibility of our elected officials.

We call on our leaders to fulfill the promise and support federal funding for life-saving medical research through the National Institutes of Health and other federal agencies.

There is nothing more important to our future than basic research. It is the foundation for all past and future scientific achievements. Throughout human history religious and political beliefs have changed, but the truth of science has always served us well. A few years ago when I employed as an actuarial analyst, a friend asked me "who does the most important work?" Without a second thought, I answered "the scientist". It is research that makes all technology and civilization eventually possible. Let us fund it first, and worry about wars and monuments later.

I strongly support the National Institutes of Health and its funding of biomedical research. I am in charge of a program in South Dakota to train future biomedical researchers (that has had > $22 million in support from NIH over 8 years). These types of programs are critical to people throughout this nation to provide future scientists to find cures for disease.
