The thing is though, that the news has changed over the years, shifting from good scare stories founded in unsubstantiated claims which grab peoples' attention, to less sensational news stories announcing that most of the previous scare stories have been either debunked or proven not to be quite the 'end-of-the-world' they had previously been presented as. Unfortunately these stories don't quite grab the attention of activists and once people have grabbed the fear and their gut has built a belief system around it, like religious fanatics, new evidence will never mean anything. Their mind has shifted from thinking rationally to rationalizing a failed hypothesis.

To make such an absolute statement as, "there is no scaremongering in regards to aspartame", demonstrates a mind clearly closed to the subject. First try typing in 'Aspartame poison' into Google, this will turn up claims ranging right across the board from MS, Lupus, ME, Fibriomalygia, migraine, etc right up to mind control.

Then play around a bit with it, try 'Aspartame detox' in google and find all the snake-oil vendors selling books, detox packs and various products to the vulnerable and gullible.

Then try typing in 'Aspartame' followed by your choice of major news vehicle, CNN, NBC, New York Times, London Times, ABC, whoever you want. There you will find stories dating back years, right up to present, in the news.
