I've been playing guitar since the age of about 8 or 9. I am basically a self taught musician although I did have formal music training at a later age. I played the Hollywood club circuit back in the early 90's however it was difficult to stay in the United States legally and I eventually returned to Canada.

I've been playing guitar for about 4 years now on a crappy 200$ amp/guitar set up with almost no formal training except the basics and lots of practicing. I used to just play songs by my favorite bands, but now I try to make up my own solos and things to backing tracks. I know a bit about the pentatonic scale, but I'm still not very good at making a flowing, improvised solo. Any tips on how to get better?
