The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum is operated by dedicated volunteers and works in partnership with the New York Museum of Transportation to bring the visitor a unique dual museum experience interpreting the railroad and transportation history of Rochester and Western New York. Established in 1971, our roots go back to 1937 as the Rochester Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society.
The R&GV Railroad Museum purchased the Erie Railroad's Industry, NY depot from the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad for a $1.00 in 1971. Beyond the now restored depot, the museum built and operates a two mile, standard gauge demonstration railroad. The R&GV Railroad Museum rosters over fifty pieces of railroad rolling stock.
The museum is supported totally through museum admissions, fundraisers, donations, and private grants. New volunteers and visitors are always welcome! Please check out our website for more information on the museum, its operations, and its collections.
