York, Maine is a town on Maine's southern coast, graced with miles of white sandy beaches and acres of farmland and pastoral countryside. A nationally known summer resort, York includes the villages of York Harbor, York Beach and Cape Neddick.
First settled in the 1630's, York was originally part of "Gorgeana," the province capital established by Lord Proprietor Sir Ferdinando Gorges and the first incorporated city in America. After Gorges' death, his lands were claimed by the Massachusetts Bay Company. York was incorporated from a portion of the defuct Georgeana in 1652, making it the second oldest town in Maine. Attacked by Indians several times during the colonial era, the town had to be rebuilt on higher ground.
As the provincial capital, York enjoyed great prosperity, serving as a port for trade with the West Indies. John Hancock, one of America's founding fathers and the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence, was a notable local merchant; his establishment now houses a historical museum. Though trade would wane after President Thomas Jefferson's embargo, York emerged by the late 19th century as a popular summer resort.
The town boasts several beautiful beaches, five-star hotels, and a cluster of lovingly maintained historic buildings at the center of the old village. York's three historic villages, rugged coastline and a host of fine establishments offer the best of New England, past and present.

Kingston, New Hampshire is well-known for its 44-acre Kingston State Park and the "Y" day camps which operate there each summer. Nearby boat launching facilities on Great Pond are open to residents, there's a town beach on Greenwood Lake, and golfers can tee up at a nine-hole golf course on the outskirts of town.
A drive into the town center of Kingston is a glance into the past. A long, broad swath of green, known as the Plains of Kingston, forms the centerpiece of this 300-year-old community. Centuries ago, the Colonial militia drilled on the Plains, and cows may even have grazed there. Today, it is the village's distinguishing landmark and a natural gathering place for community activities like fairs, antique shows and occasional concerts in the bandstand.
Kingston's once-bustling carriage building industry is reflected in the name "Carriage Towne," still used by several local businesses today. A collection of four buildings in town, including the old firehouse, serve as the historic museum and display one of the carriages, along with a horse-drawn hearse.
Kingston sports an active recreation program for children and adults, much of which is driven by the efforts of volunteers. Programs include summer camps for preschool and elementary school-aged children, baseball, softball, soccer and Pop Warner Football with the neighboring town of Raymond. Other family activities include the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony and an Easter egg hunt for the youngsters, both held on the Plains.
While the Plains of Kingston is lined with stately historic homes, the town's outlying countryside is a mixture of everything from old homesteads to new subdivisions. Commercial activities are concentrated along the Plains and on Route 125, with its steady stream of traffic. The Farmers Market stops in town each week during summer to sell locally grown produce and other fresh goods, setting up on the Plains and continuing to draw people to the center of town.

Canterbury, New Hampshire is a beautiful New England village just minutes from the state capital in Concord. First granted charter in 1727, the town is rural and agricultural in nature, attracting artisans and writers because of its peaceful setting near major urban areas. Canterbury Shaker Village, a National Historic Site on 700 acres, is a collection of lovingly restored buildings maintained as a tribute to the original inhabitants, the industrious and inventive Shaker people. The town still boasts a number of working farms and a ride along its winding roads passes stone walls, open fields and scenic hillside vistas.

New Milford, Connecticut offers a gorgeous small-town landscape that could have come straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting: village shops lining Main Street, a historic town green and quaint atmosphere. Nestled along the Housatonic River in rural Western Connecticut, New Milford served as a hub for outlying communities in its early years. First incorporated in 1712, New Milford maintains its sense of tradition and small-town atmosphere with village art and craft fair days, parades, fireworks, community theatre, storytelling, caroling and bandstand concerts.
Since the 1950's, this rural community has enjoyed significant residential and economic growth, with several high-tech firms establishing offices in town. Luckily, the community has modernized without losing its charm or its historical architecture. New Milford boasts an array of specialty shops and antique stores, gourmet restaurants, historic buildings and recreational sites.

Vernon, Connecticut is a town in the Capital Region of central Connecticut. Originally a part of Bolton, Vernon was incorporated as a separate community in 1808. In 1821, Colonel Francis McLean built the first textile mill next to "the Rock," a natural stone dam that made a high falls on the Hockanum River. A community was established around the mill, and by 1837 the village was named Rockville for its dam. In 1984, the Rockville Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places, boasting a variety of Victorian architectural styles and several of the old mill buildings. Rockville is also home to the New England Civil War Museum, erected in 1994.
The area outside Rockville ranges in character from suburban developments to rural wooded areas. Vernon benefits from a convenient location along Interstate Route 84, approximately fifteen miles from the state capital in Hartford. Vernon is the governmental center for Tolland County, as well as a center for professional offices and health services. Rockville General Hospital is located in the downtown area. Vernon offers an excellent school system and many recreational programs. A growing number of residents enjoy Vernon's accesible location, thriving economy, high-quality municipal services and classic New England charm.
