Gustav Holst- The Planets Suite
7
Videos
English composer Gustav Holst composed The Planets between 1914 and 1916. The Birmingham premiere of the suite took place in 1918, fifteen years before Pluto was discovered. Though the Planets became by far the most popular work of Holst's and one of the most known pieces by an English-born composer, Holst did not consider the piece one of his finest. Partially because of this he never wrote an eighth movement, though unexpectedly the IAU relegated Pluto to the status of dwarf planet in 2006.

If you knew how long I've searched for Mendelssohns Midsummernights dream... I found one CD once, but it was so terrible... I know two good performances - this published here, and the performance by our school orchestra, which unluckily wasn't recorded. OK, but maybe I only consider it great 'cause I fell in love with a violoncellist only shortly before...

Hey,
I've been watching some of your videos, esp. Holts' Planitary Suite - can you tell me, is there a movement for Earth? Thanks for sharing such excellent music, had never heard the Plants before and am browsing through more of your vids now! |
