Greg Bennett Torino mod with DiMarzio EJ Custom 14 position TEST with Cicognani Brutus LIVE rafport - 309 views - 2 weeks ago
Greg Bennett (ex Samick) guitar are cheap clone of Fender and Gibson model, but with some difference and some original model. Despite for their low prices, woods and measure of neck are sometime just excellent and much better than pricey gutar... it's just question to avoid to read names and prices ad use only ears and not eyes (rare to find in... muscians? :) Electronic is cheap but not bad and bridge and mechanics quite good, original Duncan Design of this model (especially bridge) was interesting and all 4 way wired. Pots are shit but cheap to change. Anyway i decide to put better pickup, and to mod obviously. Changing pickup colors, and selector and knob, change the line too and now seem a sort of Santana PRS than a strange Gibson SG and is much better for me. Selector has 2 push pull that mod every pickup from humbucking, single with first coil, single with second coil and parallel humbucking. So 4 x 3 way selector = 12 sounds. Most of sounds are distinctive and very usable, and this guitar excellent in woods and neck now has a versatile set of pickup good for almost anything wont request an extremely high output level (and i'm not interested of this kind of gutar at the moment). Amp is a Cicognani Brutus, an italian brand. It is a good head, i change the 5881 with EL34 that play better for me, and have less the modern tone i don't love very much of this modern concept amp; very rock and hard sounds are welcome here! It's a good compain for a Behringer 412V cab (oh no! other cheap stuff! how horror good parts with cheap one mix togheter, noble and poors! :) that has some V30 clone that has a much more than decent tone and some aggressive low end at a very good price (i change the wiring for mod impedance to 16ohm, because i've some head that wont support 4 ohm).

Peavey Gen EXP 2 total mod @ Texas Special Telecaster 4 way with Vox AC4 TV rafport - 276 views - 2 weeks ago
As you can see on an older video, or on Peavey website, this Telecaster clone was with two "PAF like" humbucking, piezo bridge a la stratocaster but fixed and different pickguard. As the original sound was decent but not great, i worked for a total mod: a Texas Special Custom Shop set, an original Telecaster bridge but preserving piezo sensor, a new classical pickguard. Obviouslu 4 way selector and out of phase pushpull :) It was a really hard work, i needed to hole because pickup was different in position and size. Pickguard and body seem Tele like but are different in size, a little smaller and different shape in the horn, so i needed to cut a blank pickguard foil. Pickups are screwed and fixed (cannot be moved) to body for a improved attack. Body isnt ash but alder, so wont sound exactly as a Tele... is a little darker but i really love his sound. Piezo is very good with this starting tone for mixes. I put a orange drop resistor, and i find very good tone regolator (i'm thinking to use in all my guitars). It was an hard work but in my opinion performance, tone and apparence of this baby improve a lot and now it is a very well sounding instrument; consider that the Peavey Gen EXP2 is a cheap China guitar, so original guitar plus Custom Shop pickups, pieces i buy are less or equal that a Mex Tele... For recording i use just a Vox AC4 TV with all to midnight, no effects

Crank your amp: how power tube saturation affect tone and dynamics rafport - 224 views - 3 weeks ago
This is a compared test with a (great) Epiphone Blues Custom 30 with no attenuator, and attenuation and volume with different level until "10" (or max). I'm using just clean channel, with a single pots for gain, so all saturation in in power stage. You can see reading on screen message how headroom change, how sounds become spongy, dynamic and dirty growing volume pot. The breaking point change from any amp and depends on your style, but for sure if your general volume is very low because it is yet too loud... your amp won't sound as it should and you're just using preamp saturation, that can be good for some style but really won't represent richness and warmth of a tube amp, and won't aid to improve style and expression in picking. I'm using my mod strat, the amp and a Tube Town self made power attenuator.

Vox AC4 TV - great vintage tone and creamy power tube saturation rafport - 1,672 views - 3 weeks ago
I've already several tube amp, and when i tried in shop i really don't need another amp or a mini amp. Anyway i was amazed about how warm, nice and greasy this marvellous AC4 TV sounds! A 10" custom Celestion cone for a micro combo cab, with much many bass you can image (sounds better grounded). No effect at all, just amp and my mod strato with Custom Shop 54

Fender Stratocaster Mexico + Custom Shop 54 pickup + multi mod (14 combination) rafport - 1,433 views - 1 month ago
My mod of my (loved) mexican strato. I change pickups from stock with Custom Shop 54 (i really love them), all pots (i put 2 push pull 250k + 3 step rotative switch) and some other mods like pearl pickguard. I did a project mixing mods i found on the net all in one solution, without do a single hole into pickguard (ask me if you interested in). counting all position with in and out of phase, there are 14 different sounds possibile, many of them very usable. For this demo i'm using an Epiphone Amp (Blues Custom 30, great amp and cheap too!) without any stom, any reverb, clean channel with all to 12. I'm just using a power attenuator build by myself using Tube Town project and parts to crank volume without kill neighbours :) In my opinion difference bethween sounds are smaller earing the recording, earing "live" every position sounds radically different.

Peavey Generation EXP 2 humbucking test with mod (Telecaster with piezo pickup) rafport - 699 views - 3 months ago
A great and cheap Telecaster clone, with some (big) problems easily solved by a few soldering, a switch and a good setup (factory one was awful). Tested with Epiphone Blues Custom 30 on clean channel, DIY power attenuator by Tube Town and DIY MXR DynaComp by Tonepad
