In a word "yes", certainly the AAA top titles. But there are a lot of open source engines out there now that have a reasonable amount of documentation behind them, not to mention Microsoft's XNA dev studio thingy. What you want to do is figure out what aspect you want to focus on and get to grips with modding from that point of view, you can then just change and adapt as you learn/require more.

Hey.

I havn't been on a 3D chat room or games console in 6 or 7 years now, haven't played since I little (20 now).

I used to think I might like being a computer game designer or whatever they are called but never really did anything about, always seemed like fun, not realistic as a job.

I was thinking of having a go on them again, see if I even like them any more.
Are they much more advanced now?
Being much older now they will proberly seem very different, obvoiusly not as fun as I used to find it but hopefully they will pretty good and might get me into designing again.

So if you could point me in the direction of the best ones and how to go about getting started on computer technology designing and so on that would be great.

Thanks so much.

That could be tricky depending on what game you want to add that to/creating content for becasue it'll depend on whether there's a system in place to allow 'animated' fog/mist like that.

Well yes, I do. But what do you want it for? A game? A film? An effect at the local disco? Need more details than just a request/question.

Hello you know make a mist similar to that of silent hill

Sorry for the reply delay, it was Christmas and all that!

It's best to get a general idea of the kind of modelling or use you want to get out of Blender before delving to far into it right now; the reason is that different types of content production tend to need slightly different ways of using the application, so game modelling uses different techniques to image render or compositing and so on.

For now I'd recommend popping to the Quake3Bits forums and read the sticky resources in the Modelling section for a list of useful 3rd party 'beginner' tutorials, this one is particularly useful - http://www.quake3bits.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST&f=3&t=2&st=#entry3
