The purpose of this group is to watch and discuss bellydance videos on this site. Also, in a professional manner, analyze particular dancers and study their style.
This is a great learning expericence and if you are a dancer you could learn alot. As far as analyzing, I refered to the Guilded Serpent article by Messioun and added in a few of mine as some guide lines. This site is intended as educational as well as fun.
You may include any of the following information when reviewing this videos and posting comments.
1 - Give any personal knowlege of the video or music
2 - Define the dance style, define exciting movements that caught you immeditely, intrances, exits, outstanded moves timed perfectly with the music, and what makes this dancer such a great dancer
Analyizing Performance - please do not be to nit picking.
1 - Analyzing Style of dancer, does the dancer reflect a particular style. Do she have any particular exciting moves that are so commendable, commendable entrances and exits, as well as commendable perforrmance during parts of the dance.
2 - Analyzing dance - any weakness? Are many moves one sided: always turn to right, do hip circle CCW, use only one hip for hip drop, perform moves incorrectlly, choreography does not match the music of does not complement the music.
3 - Arms and Hands - do they use the correct positioning, do they complement the movement or do they move independently, are they with skill and grace, are they held close or out, what is the finger positioning, what is the ratio of hand and arm movesments to other movements.
4 - Hips - are they onesided hip movements, do they accentent on down beats, where is the emphasis, fwd, back, down, up, twist; are the hips isolated, what direction are fig 8's and circles done, where do movement originate - torso or legs; what shimmies are used.
5 - Upper body - are hip movements isolated from upper body or are upper body movements isolated from lower body when the other is not being used; is shimmy done with shoulders and chest; what other chest movements are used.
6 - Use of space - does she dance in the same spot or change; what position is the dancer the majority of dance, front or side; is she moving on lines, curves, or circles; How often does she spin or use level changes.
7 - Head - how does she hold her head, where is she looking - at audience, at accented moves, or other; facial expression and demeanor - is she joyful, happy, enthusiastic, expressive, deep emotional, dancing from the heart, etc. Does she do anything with her hair and is it appropriate timing.
8 - Music Interpretations - does she choose the appropriate music, does her dance reflect the music. How often and fast does she change movements, does she follow the rhythm or melody?
9 - Other things - Does she use zills and other props?. Can she use them efficiently. Does she dance barefoot or with shoes.
