Followed this train east from Toppenish, WA back in December, 2007. Runbys at Mabton, Prosser and Kiona. For me the best part is the sound - there are not many places in the west where you can watch and listen to a train running at full speed on JOINTED RAIL!!! Close your eyes and transport yourself back twenty or more years.
NOTE: Last week or so, BNSF announced that they are mothballing the Stampede Pass route indefinitely. That means there will still be local freight service on this route, but no more through trains (like this one) until traffic conditions warrant someday! (less info)
