Siam, the Land of Smiles สยามเมืองยิ้ม (with English Translation by Dale E. Victorine) แปลภาษาอังกฤษ Sung by Takatan Chollada (ตั๊กแตน ชลดา). This Thai song reflects some of the pride that Thais feel for their county. It gives non-Thais a chance to see The Land of Smiles from a Thai perspective.

Teresa Teng 鄧麗君: Yuan Xiang Ren 原鄉人 (with English translation added by Dale Victorine) Teresa Teng (1953-1995) was from Taiwan and is one of my favorite Asian singers. I would roughly translate the title as: The Homecoming, but the literal translation is Original Countryman. I found the translation online by Yusaku Godai. I made a couple of slight changes and added it to the video.

Teresa Teng 鄧麗君: I Only Care About You (with English Translation added by Dale Victorine) I first heard about Teresa Teng while living in Thailand in the early 90s. A Japanese friend introduced me to her music and several other wonderful singers. I was (of course) instantly entranced by her voice and expression. Unfortunately many Americans have still never heard of her, even though she's still very popular in Asia and elsewhere. Here's my attempt to help spread her fame a little further. I found the translation on the internet, and improved the grammar a little. I hate to get political here, but this video is not getting any views from China - because China has banned YouTube.

This is the midi version of the 1st movement of my Symphony for Concert Band "Ayutthaya" in D minor, Op. 74. I wrote this work during the first few months of my 3 year stay in Thailand in the early 90s. This work was inspired in part by a visit to the ruins of Ayutthaya, which was the capitol of Thailand for several hundred years until 1767. The music is also full of the feelings I had just being in Thailand and living day to day with its lovely people.

This video featuring the 1st movement of my String Quartet No. 1 in C (2001) is also a trubute to E. E. Cummings, my favorite American poet. The piece was performed at a NACUSAsf concert by the Blossom Quartet on Nov. 8, 2002 in Palo Alto. E. E. Cummings was also an artist, and almost all of the paintings are by him. The only one I'm not sure about happens at 0:54. I've also included one of my favorite Cummings poems. Cummings was well known for his unusual punctuation and lack of capitol letters.
i thank You God for most this amazing day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything which is natural which is infinite which is yes
(i who have died am alive again today, and this is the sun's birthday; this is the birth day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay great happening illimitably earth)
how should tasting touching hearing seeing breathing any--lifted from the no of all nothing--human merely being doubt unimaginable You?
(now the ears of my ears awake and now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

I'm one of Sandra's friends from Andrew Hill. Thought of some of your works were real neat. Check out my videos if you ever have time.
