YouTube Video Competition 08 09

The USC School of Architecture is pleased to announce its second annual YouTube Video Competition.

We're looking for short films, videos that most creatively answer ONE of the following questions: "Why be an architect?" OR "Why study architecture?"

Prizes:

1st Place: $2,000
2nd Place: $1,000
*Audience Award: $1,000

*This year, we've added a new prize: in addition to first and second prizes, $1000 will be awarded to the video with most views on www.youtube.com/uscarchitectur e between February 2 and February 9, 2009.

COMPETITION RULES

This competition is open to everyone: undergraduate, graduate and even non-Architecture students at the University of Southern California. You can work individually or in a team. The groups are encouraged to be inter-disciplinary so you can incorporate students from other schools.

***DEADLINE***
The competition entries are due Tuesday, January 20th. Students are encouraged to share their video concepts or work with students in cinema and/or music in an effort to increase the quality and effectiveness of the final product. Final product must be enclosed in an envelope as a CD or DVD in either .avi or .mov formats. Drop off videos c/o of Adam Smith in Harris Hall, Room 210 North.

Parameters (for video)

a. 3-5 minutes

b. Creatively answers the question: Why be an architect? Winning entries should somehow incorporate USC Architecture in that answer.

c. Three prizes (1st: $2000, 2nd: $1000; Audience Prize for Most Views in YouTube: $1000) Professor Victor Regnier has provided support for this competition.

d. The cardinal sin on YouTube is boring content. Feel free to be unconventional, use humor, drama, satire or interesting visuals to express the life and point of view of a USC Architecture student. Please, no inappropriate language or explicit content.

e. Juried by team (including Dean Qingyun Ma, Victor Regnier, Kara Bartelt, Mina Chow and Adam Smith)

f. To be placed on the School's YouTube site as the winning entries. Selected videos will also be packaged with last years entries as a compilation DVD, sent to alumni and USC Architectural Guild members. The USC School of Architecture retains the right to broadcast, distribute or re-edit any chosen submissions in perpetuity.
