If the rain comes they run and hide their heads, they might as well be dead
If the rain comes, if the rain comes
When the sun shines they slip into the shade
(When the sun shines down)
And sip their lemonade
(When the sun shines down)
When the sun shines, when the sun shines
Rain, I don't mind
Shine, the weather's fine
I can show you that when it starts to rain,
(When the Rain comes down)
Everything's the same
(When the Rain comes down)
I can show you, I can show you.
Rain, I don't mind.
Shine, the weather's fine
Can you hear me, that when it rains and shines,
(When it Rains and shines)
It's just a state of mind?
(When it rains and shines)
Can you hear me, can you hear me?
If the rain comes they run and hide their heads

About Me:
Apparently the above is too subtle: I won't send you the music, you'll have to buy it. Support those artists.
**********************
R.E.M. clips -- Warner videos will (or won't) be back depending on the outcome of the lawsuit currently in court. I do not know wtf is up with UMG: old IRS clips seem to be OK (unless I'm about to be booted), but most of the new ones posted from 'Reckoning' were rejected.**
**Correction: All were rejected. One that slunk through was just pulled. You better believe my language is getting pretty colourful back on this side of the computer.
***UPDATE: October 7 2009: So the WMG dispute with YT was settled on Sept 25, but most R.E.M. uploads are disabled anyway. Maybe they'll suddenly be cleared & posted, the way a couple of Blackhawk Down tracks were after sitting in limbo for six months (and maybe hope springs eternal). I miss linking to "Mr. Richards" or "Ignoreland" when politically vexed.
***********************
Some of these audio clips have official videos, but since embedding has been disabled, there's not much point (for me, anyway). Hopefully I won't be requested to block any of the new audio clips going up now. Others have homemade videos that just didn't strike my fancy for posts of my own -- not that there's anything wrong with those, just a personal preference. Hem hem hem hem

Font of useless information
Hobbies:
Siamese kitties (and all other animals, but siamese kitties especially), sciences, politics, writing, music, historical Europe, contemporary Africa and the Middle East.
Movies:
Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire, Alien 1 and 2, and the first two Godfather movies. TV - The Sopranos, Doctor Who, The Office, Bill Maher, Jon Stewart and old BBC series
Music:
Now: R.E.M, U2, Roger Waters, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder. Then: The Who, Cheap Trick, Led Zeppelin. (and many, many more)
Books:
'Rats: Observations on the History and Habitat of the City's Most Unwanted Inhabitants' - Robert Sullivan, 'Blindness' - Jose Saramago, Barbara Tuchman 'March of Folly', Hunter S. Thompson... So like, I've actually read those**, and they really are good, but those titles are code for 'singularly tense bitch until US and Canadian federal elections are over' (it's supposed to be clever), and if Harper gets his landslide, I'm moving to Australia...The depressing litany of political titles will return soon. Although I'm euphoric right now (US Election), us Canadians are bleak creatures, especially with George W. Harper as Prime Minister. (**Yo! Need some recommendations to get up to speed on the Sudan, Rwanda, The Congo, South Asia? I'm your girl)

"Thanks so much for your reply, I hadn't known any of this, & it makes sense.
Clearly you've done a lot of reading: could you recommend some book..." more |
