Chris Goffey reports on the release of the 1989 Peugeot 605. The 605 was produced until 1999, when the 607 became it's overdue replacement.
I am one of those people who think that Top Gear should return to the 'good old days' i.e. real reviews such as this one.
Some additional info if you like the 605 for some odd reason (as I do). It's a shame that it was plagued by countless reliability problems up until the later years of it's life.
The diesel variant of the 605 was introduced in 1990, with a 2.1 liter 12 valve unit producing 80 bhp and 180 nm of torque. A turbocharged version was eventually available, with similar specification, with an increased 107 bhp and 235 nm of torque. 1994 also saw the release of the 2.5 TD 605, joining the range until the end of production in 1999.
In 1991, Peugeot added a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder petrol engine to the range, with 150 bhp.
The PRV V6 engine was replaced by a new independantly built V6 in 1997, featuring 24 valves, and a capacity of 2.9 cubic liters resulting in 190 bhp.
