Jonathan Coulton's 'Skullcrusher Mountain' (lip sync challenge) pmcrimson - 97 views - 2 weeks ago
I hope you enjoy this silly video. If you think it's lame, I apologize in advance for wasting your time. It was, at the very least, fun to make.

Thank you for having the patience to help me with this, Rich!

For more Jonathan Coulton fun, check out his websites. He's organized a few of his songs for the benefit of new fans here (http://www.jonathancoulton.co m/primer/listen/). To listen to (and even acquire) any song from his "Thing-A-Week" project, among other tunes, go here (http://www.jonathancoulton.co m/store/downloads/).

A Little More Philosophy pmcrimson - 73 views - 2 weeks ago
Labels shmabels, I care MORE about HOW people THINK thank WHAT they BELIEVE. I want to know:

1) What inspires in you a feeling of awe?
2) What inspires you to be a better person?
3) Without quoting anybody else or any holy text, what is your definition of God (whether or not you "believe" in the existence of said definition)?

As food for thought, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Karen Armstrong's book *A History of God*. The language can be intimidatingly scholarly for some, but I much enjoyed her writing and the material is fascinating.

As usual, I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND *When They Severed Earth From Sky* by Elizabeth Wayland Barber and Paul T. Barber. It examines the historicity and psychology of religious myth. I was fascinated by literally every chapter.

Morality Comes From Logic and Compassion, Not Divine Mandate or Religion pmcrimson - 263 views - 3 months ago
I've posted this video for the same reason as I've posted my other monovlogues: to get conversation going. So far the answers have been thoughtful and the discussions have been fun. If you have a long-winded reaction to the video, that's perfectly fine. As long as we can discuss these issues like adults, I welcome input from absolutely anyone, EVEN if you passionately disagree with me. Please, don't hesitate to share your own ideas, no matter how many comment boxes you must fill to explain them.

And now, a few further points for consideration: If you believe morality comes from a godly decree, that whatever "God says" goes, then what if God declared that touching your elbow was a sin? Would that *make* it a sin? What if God came to you in a dream and declared that, to fulfill his will, you had to kill the next infant you encountered as you traveled about your daily life? Should you do it?

If you answered no because, God being "good" and all, he would never demand things so arbitrary or horrifying, then you acknowledge a morality that transcends deity. You are, in fact, holding God to a moral standard. Furthermore, if you believe in an all-powerful God, shouldn't he also possess the power to change his mind? Isn't an omnipotent being with no free will of his/her/its own a blatant contradiction?

More thoughts to come later!

Although I wouldn't label myself as a "follower" of any philosophy beyond my own reasoning, what I read about secular humanism generally sounds good. Here's Wikipedia's entry on that topic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S ecular_humanism

Also excellent food for thought are The New Ten Commandments (one of the most relevant and inspired moral codes I've found yet, and it was written by an atheist): http://www.ebonmusings.org/ath eism/new10c.html

If you believe religion leads to greater goodness, please consult a little history: http://www.jhuger.com/learn

Additional relevant links will be added as I find them.

P.S. Sorry about the yellow lighting and the scratchy audio.

Voltaire - Happy Birthday (My Olde Friend) Music Video voltairenyc - 46,845 views - 7 months ago
This is a music video for my song Happy Birthday (My Olde Friend) from my CD "To the Bottom of the Sea". In fact, it's my first music video for one of my songs! It was shot by Jochen Schoberth of Etage Music in German and directed by me from in front of the camera. The hair and make-up was done by my lovely fiance, Jayme. The video is populated by 100 of my Gothic Lolita friends who were exclusively cast from my Myspace page ( www.myspace.com/voltairenyc ). The new CD is now available at www.cdbaby.com/voltairenyc

My friends are more readily apt at music, movie, and TV references, but I like to make attempts now and then. :-)

Sorry about the funky light shiftiness. Don't know how that happened. Perhaps the auto-focus on my camera is indecisive? *shrugs*

This isn't everything (some is still in transit with my good gal pal Jill), but it's plenty to write home about ... though I don't have to write home any longer about it. :-)

Bella Welcomes Me Home pmcrimson - 80 views - 2 years ago
Just a short clip to show the Kodas our puppy in the U.S. I'm sure Bella and Alice would be great friends if they could meet. :-)

She was actually much *more* excited moments before, but I couldn't start my camera quickly enough. Of course, she would have been equally ecstatic if random delivery boy had let her into the house (she loves people, even total strangers), but that's besides the point, right? ;-)

Since coming to Japan I've made up tongue twisters, partly for use in classes, but mostly for my own amusement. Enjoy!

I think cheap public transportation is kick ass, particularly when it is as reliable as it is in Japan. Therefore, I braved icy winds to be your tour guide at a small train station halfway between Nagoya and Ise. I showed my video clip to the conductor dude. He laughed at me. It was great! :-D

Very early in the morning, my parents and I sit and wait till they must board a flight out of Nagoya. In the meantime, they tell all about their favorite stuff experienced while in Japan.

Well, here's video one of my adventurings in Japan. Enjoy!

I forgot to explicitly mention that all the items listed in the beginning are foods I've tried while in Japan. All of them are yummy, except for the raw squid. So gooey, so cold, so gross. But the rest tastes awesome!

Also, I don't know why I kept friggin clapping, but I didn't feel like redoing the vid, so oh well. I'll try to cut down on that in the future.
